In an effort to prevent further loss of human and poultry lives from the dreaded H7N9 bird flu virus, China has decided to take a drastic step and initiate a vaccine of its poultry population.
All species involved in commercial poultry production, including egg laying hens are being targeted for vaccination.
The managing director for the China Poultry Association, Li Jinghui, calls this a good thing in the near term and says that this is definitely a control measure.
The decision to start the vaccination as early as July is taken to prevent the expected annual uprise in outbreaks of Bird Flu which traditionally hits China in the 4th quarter of the year. A move which has been described as showing good timing smart preparation by the government.
