A ruling by the Supreme Court of Arkansas which enabled the state to deny equal rights to parenthood for both parents in a same sex adopting, have been overturned by the US Supreme Court.
In what cements the right to same sex marriage, secured by a controversial Supreme Court ruling in 2015, the court ruled ink favour of a lesbian couple who had been denied the right to dual motherhood on their adopted child’s birth certificate.
The ruling comes after the state of Arkansas denied the right to the couple to have both names listed as mother on the birth certificate.
Three conservative justices stated that the ruling should not have been overturned but the vote favoured the lesbian couple.
