We've made conscious choices to minimize the environment footprint of every Brightside Journal. Making these choices significantly increases our production costs. But we're not here to cheap-out on sustainability. Our choices -
- FSC® and PEFC™ certified paper from Poland without compromising on quality. It's super smooth, 100gsm uncoated, age-resistant paper in a cream shade. Choosing a cheaper paper that's not sustainable would've reduced our costs by 30%. But that's not who you want us to be!
- 99% Plastic-free packaging - All packaging materials are plastic free yet very protective of the Journal on it's way to you! The 1% is lost to the adhesive used in tapes. We're trying to find alternatives to this too.
- No Bookmark - Because Satin bookmarks are made from synthetic materials that don't biodegrade.
What's not sustainable -
Unfortunately, some materials used in book manufacturing (like spine head-band & tail-band, gold foil, shrink-wrap, local high quality paper) currently do not have practical sustainable alternatives. We're constantly on the lookout for any innovation in these materials and promise to try them out on Brightside as soon as they're available for practical use.
